Health & Safety Coordinator

Job Description

We are searching for an individual who possesses the following key responsibilities and skills to work for Villeneuve Construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise and develop the Health & Safety through coaching, mentoring and cross-training to ensure high quality deliverables to stakeholders;
  • Liaise with management, supervisor and front-line personnel to provide assistance with regulatory compliance;
  • Administer employee orientation and development training;
  • Manage the Division’s JHSC committee;
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements;
  • Liaise with various ministries, safety associations, clients, sub-contractors to ensure regulatory compliance, etc.;
  • Manage the planning, development and implementation of all health, safety and emergency management programs;
  • Promote site awareness of health and safety requirements and conditions for operations;
  • Oversee the Health & Safety management systems and practices, taking into account quality, cost, safety, production and overall business need;
  • Research and propose cost effective, efficient and compliant approaches;
  • Provide support and advice to department heads on inclusion of health and safety risk management consideration in work plans;
  • Undertake regular site audits and assessments to support compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Assist in the management of the company’s training program;
  • Manage the safety meeting program;
  • Set-up jobsite office trailers as per company policy;
  • Verify incident response measures are in place, lead investigations as required and prepare relevant reports;
  • Manage the company’s Drug and Alcohol Program;
  • Manage the company’s Video Surveillance Program;
  • Assist in managing the company’s Geo Tab Program;
  • Address public complaints related to our worksite;
  • Supervise the ORBA driver licenses status program;
  • Work along and assist HR Coordinator;
  • Other duties as may be assigned within the reasonable scope of work of the position
Skills/Requirements
  • Diploma in Health and Safety, Human Resources or related discipline would be an asset;
  • Experience in a health and safety/human resources role would be an asset;
  • Must be bilingual in French and English;
  • Extensive knowledge of Ontario legislation, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations, Employment Standards Act, etc.;
  • Practical experience with risk identification, assessment, and management;
  • Advanced MS Suite skills, MS Office;
  • Knowledge of health and safety management systems;
  • Strong communication, influential with strong negotiation skills;
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills;
  • Strong team player;
  • Willing to travel, must possess a valid driver’s license
